Apple is still evil

Ben Fuller — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 11:52

So, how does Apple all of the sudden own the overwhelming right to the use of Apples as a brand? They finally settled with the Beatles' Apple Corps over usage rights and got way more ownership of the brand than they should have - and this all after continued infringement upon the already established Apple Corps brand.

Now they are going after NYC - the Big Apple. Next up to be sued by Mr Jobs' incredibly high opinion of himself and his company: Granny Smith and Johnny Appleseed (I hope they have good representation).

Full Disclosure

Ian Sutherland — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 12:25

In the interest of full disclosure, Ben is in Micro$oft's back pocket.
I am a big fan of Apple's technology and innovations (having owned several Macs over the years)(Also in the interest of disclosure).

That said, I'm not a big fan of either companies legal departments.... but if they paid Paul, Ringo and the estates of John and George a fair price (likely, since the Beatle Legal Eagles aren't slouches either...), I don't have a problem here.

Full Full Disclosure

Ben Fuller — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 12:39

Yeah, granted that I am in their back pocket, but I am also assuming that everyone already believes that MS is evil - what kills me is that Apple pulls the same stuff and with more brass (MS doesn't as much anymore mainly due to being watched so closely because of previous Anti-Trust settlements) and everyone seems to applaud them for it. Google fits this mold as well. I don't think they should get a free pass just because they deliver a relatively decent product.

A good product goes a loooong way

Ian Sutherland — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 12:54

As will minority status...

I think you'll see less "Apple-passing" once they pass 20% marketshare in computers... and let's face it; Apple makes cool stuff. Making a good widget buys you a lot of goodwill.

Which is why M$ is still stumbling.....
